Business Analyst - Sponsored Programs Financial Services - Clinical Trials

General Overview

The incumbent is responsible for the implementation and execution of various post-award and financial management activities for grants, contracts, and clinical trials within the Sponsored Programs Financial Services (SPFS) supporting Allegheny-Singer Research Institute and Allegheny Health Network.

Responsibilities include award set-up, transaction processing, compliance review, cash management, collections, financial reporting, and project close-out. You will analyze financial results, trends, projections, and performance metrics to facilitate business decisions while adhering to institutional policies and sponsor guidelines.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Compliance Management: Develop a full understanding of business and financial terms for grants, contracts, and clinical trials. Maintain compliance with federal, state, local, and private sponsor regulations (including Uniform Guidance).
  • Invoicing, Accounts Receivable, and Cash Management: Manage payment schedules, invoice sponsors, follow up on outstanding payments, and troubleshoot payment variances. Manage sponsor portals for invoicing and payment retrieval.
  • Month-end Close: Prepare journal entries, ensure financial transactions align with GAAP and institutional policies, and generate monthly financial statements.
  • Reporting: Independently prepare financial reports, address discrepancies, and ensure all internal and sponsor deadlines are met.
  • Project Closeout: Complete accurate project closeout documentation, ensuring all cost-share requirements are met, unallowable costs are removed, and all financial obligations are settled.
  • Audit: Implement internal controls and gather documentation for auditors as required.
  • Other duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, budget planning, and financial analysis.
  • Ability to assess, research, and resolve complex financial and compliance issues.
  • Deep understanding of financial management in a clinical trial setting, research accounting, and compliance/auditing.

Preferred

  • Prior experience in grant, contract, and clinical trial financial administration.
  • Knowledge of federal agency regulations, Uniform Guidance, and federal acquisition regulations.
  • Experience with clinical research billing compliance.

Skills

  • Strong organizational and mathematical skills with the ability to analyze data and formulate conclusions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex financial data into understandable narratives.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage large volumes of work under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in financial software and MS Excel (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, etc.).
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Compensation

  • Pay Range Minimum: $25.87/hour
  • Pay Range Maximum: $40.48/hour Base pay is determined by a variety of factors including qualifications, experience, and market considerations.
