Source: HackerNews
Location: Remote (±2 EU CET)
Type: Full Time
Website: https://splash.tech/

About the Role

We’re a small UK-based free-to-play gaming company with a distributed EU team. We are growing fast following recent success and are currently scaling our backend platform. We are looking to hire two engineers:

  • Backend Engineer: Mid-senior to senior level (5+ years of experience).
  • DevOps Engineer: Mid-senior level (5+ years of experience).

Requirements

Backend Engineer

  • Strong background in backend development.
  • Ideally experienced in Java, but open to those willing to learn.
  • DevOps experience is a plus, or a strong desire to learn it (you will be expected to do DevOps as part of this role).

DevOps Engineer

  • Your main role will be DevOps on AWS.
  • Willingness to learn Java.
  • Familiarity with Terraform, Kubernetes, EC2, ALBs, Route53, and Cloudflare.

Our Tech Stack

  • Languages/Frameworks: Java, Python, TypeScript, Angular
  • Infrastructure/Tools: AWS, Kubernetes, Postgres, Trino, Flux, Flagger, Terraform

Expectations

  • Product-First Mindset: You must be able to take a task from idea to production and work across the full development cycle.
  • Independence: You must write your own code. AI assistance is fine, but you must be able to produce all work independently. (Note: No Cursor).
  • Database Skills: You must be able to write SQL when needed; our approach is SQL-first.
  • Communication: We value clear thinking. You should be comfortable sketching simple architecture or flow diagrams (boxes and lines) to explain your ideas.

How to Apply

Please send an email to jack[at]splash.tech with the subject line:

  • “Devops Hackernews 2026”

Please include a link to any Git/Bitbucket/SourceForge project that represents your coding. Otherwise, you will be asked to complete a small test project.
