Compensation: C$500–C$800 per 4-article engagement.
About the Role
We’re an early-stage independent writing studio producing original business blogs for lifestyle businesses. We work across real estate, travel & hospitality, home & living, beauty & personal care, and food & beverage.
We are looking for a freelance editorial blog writer to produce client work. We need someone who is a strong writer with strong editorial judgment. You should be able to look at a business, understand its goals and audience, and make informed decisions about what is worth writing about on its behalf.
The Engagement
Our standard client engagement consists of four original blog articles, each approximately 800–1,500 words. You will not simply receive predetermined titles and briefs; developing the articles is part of the work.
Your responsibilities include:
- Reviewing the client’s website, existing blog, business, audience, and voice.
- Developing an editorial direction for the four articles, including the subject, angle, and purpose of each piece.
- Identifying what information you need from the client (we handle all client communication).
- Conducting secondary research and writing, substantively editing, and proofreading each article.
- Handling one reasonable revision round per article.
Note: You will not be responsible for SEO, keyword strategy, metadata, publishing, CMS work, imagery, design, social media, broader marketing strategy, or managing clients.
Requirements
- Ability to research unfamiliar subjects and learn businesses quickly.
- Ability to develop article ideas and angles independently.
- Ability to adapt your writing across different voices and consumer-facing lifestyle subjects.
- AI Policy: Our articles are substantively human-written. Generative AI cannot be used to research, draft, rewrite, or substantively edit client work. It may be used for ideation, and standard tools for spelling, grammar, and organization are permitted.
