UX/UI Designer (BAY AREA, CA - HYBRID) 1099 CONTRACT

Role Overview

This is an ongoing 1099 contract position working across several B2B products that share a single design system. You will work directly with the founding CTO. This is not a full-time seat.

Compensation & Engagement

  • Engagement Model: Ongoing 1099 contract. Milestone prices are set against a frozen spec; scope is deliverable by deliverable.
  • First Package: A fixed-price "flows-and-kit" package (approx. three weeks).
  • Ongoing Rate: $50–75/hr as each product grows.

Logistics

  • Location: SF Bay Area, hybrid. Requires in-person working sessions for kickoffs and reviews.
  • Start Date: Immediately after selection.
  • Level: Mid-level designers are welcome.

About the Studio

We are a small Bay Area product studio managing several products under one stack and visual language. You will own the UX, defining user personas, task flows, screen content, and error states. Our goal is to reuse tokens, components, and patterns so that customers and engineers do not have to learn a new UI for every product.

The Work

  • Product Focus: B2B web apps, including dashboards, media/content libraries, status views, and auth/access-gate states.
  • Current Project: A digital signage CMS (mobile-first PWA). Features include content uploading, playlist building, pairing outdoor Android screens, and managing device states (setup QR, downloading, error states).
  • Your Contribution:
    • Participate in product breakdown and strategy.
    • Bring a point of view on structure, priority, and scope reduction.
    • Map flows before high-fidelity screens are created.
    • Challenge standard admin layouts when they are not the right fit for the task.
  • Technical Execution:
    • Start from a Tailwind UI / shadcn component kit.
    • Restyle buttons, inputs, tables, cards, and dialogs with our brand (color, type, radius, density).
    • Design page structure, hierarchy, and flow.
    • Ensure screens are composed of components with tokens that map to our Tailwind theme for seamless frontend implementation.
