[Hiring] YouTube Thumbnail Designers

Source: reddit-r-forhire
Budget: $10–$30 per thumbnail (based on complexity)

Who We Are

We build done-for-you YouTube client acquisition systems for high-ticket service providers—coaches, consultants, and agency owners. We handle strategy, scripting, production, SEO, and channel management end-to-end. Our system has generated over $1M in client revenue directly attributed to YouTube content.

We make videos that close deals. Your job is to make sure they get clicked in the first place.

The Role

Every video we produce lives or dies by its thumbnail. We're hiring a YouTube Thumbnail Designer who understands that—not just someone who can make something look good, but someone who can engineer a click.

This is a long-term retainer. You'll design thumbnails for multiple business client accounts, each with its own visual identity, audience, and click psychology. You'll work directly with our ops manager, receive clear briefs, and be expected to deliver consistently at a high level.

  • Budget: $10–$30 per thumbnail (based on complexity).
  • Volume: Grows as we onboard new customers—there's no ceiling.

What You'll Be Designing

  • Thumbnails for long-form (10–20 min) business YouTube content (coaches, consultants, fractional executives, and agency owners).
  • Clean, premium, authority-driven visuals—not clickbait chaos, but not corporate stock photo either.
  • Designs that stop a professional audience mid-scroll and earn the click without misleading them.
  • Occasional A/B variants for testing CTR on key videos.

Your Responsibilities

  • Design thumbnails from a written brief (title, angle, key visual, client brand guide).
  • Deliver layered source files (PSD or equivalent) alongside final exports at 1280×720.
  • Maintain distinct visual systems per client—consistency across a channel is part of the job.
  • Implement revision feedback fast and without friction.
  • Communicate proactively—if something's unclear, ask before delivering the wrong thing.

What We're Looking For

  • A portfolio that proves you understand CTR, not just aesthetics—show us designs that earn clicks from professional or educational audiences.
  • Deep proficiency in Photoshop (required); Figma or Illustrator are a bonus.
  • Real grasp of click psychology: visual hierarchy, contrast, text economy, emotional cues, and gaze direction.
  • Someone who treats feedback as data, not criticism.
  • Bonus: Experience designing for business, finance, consulting, or business education channels.

Are You the Right Fit?

You are NOT the right fit if:

  • Your portfolio is gaming/entertainment thumbnails and you've never thought about a professional audience.
  • You need hand-holding to hit a deadline.
  • You design for likes, not clicks.
  • You have 30 clients and no real bandwidth for iteration.
  • You use AI generation as a substitute for understanding composition.

You ARE the right fit if:

  • You look at any thumbnail and can immediately diagnose why it will or won't get clicked.
  • You know the difference between designing for a business decision-maker and a teenager.
  • You think about text economy—3–6 words max, and every word earns its place.
  • You want one great long-term retainer, not a pile of one-off gigs.
  • You get better every month because you actually study what's working on YouTube.

What You Get

  • Guaranteed minimum volume from day one.
  • Clear, detailed briefs—no guesswork, no creative chaos.
  • Direct feedback that sharpens your craft.
  • Growing volume as we add customers—this role scales with the business.
  • Work that actually moves business outcomes, not vanity metrics.
