About Strobe Power

AI data centers are creating a massive new wave of electricity demand and putting even more strain on an aging grid. Strobe is building the power company that will meet that demand.

Our software turns batteries and generators at commercial and industrial buildings into distributed power plants that can buy, sell, and dispatch electricity in real time. We build the control stack for operating these assets and the trading platform that connects them to wholesale energy markets.

We’re a small, high-ownership team working on critical infrastructure. You’ll learn how the energy system actually works: what happens inside the electrical room of a large commercial building, how data centers are powered, how utilities and grid operators communicate, and how a battery gets commissioned and brought online.

This is early, technical, and very real-world. The software you build will control physical equipment, keep power plants online, and move money in regulated markets. We’re the only company actively trading distributed power in FERC-regulated wholesale markets, with multiple behind-the-meter power plants operating in NYC and expansion underway in California and along the East Coast.

The Role

I’m looking for an experienced SRE to own our infrastructure and reliability. We remotely operate millions of dollars of equipment, and it has to work.

You will:

  • Own our AWS environment.
  • Manage the control-room infrastructure that communicates directly with utilities and market operators.
  • Maintain the systems we use to deploy, observe, and operate a growing fleet.
  • Work closely with the rest of the engineering team to establish good patterns as we ship new services and features.

Requirements

You’re probably a good fit if you have:

  • Deep AWS experience.
  • Used Terraform seriously in production.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Comfort working around Rust services.
  • Bonus: Energy experience (SCADA, DNP3, MQTT) is useful but not required.

Tech Stack

  • Languages: Python, TypeScript, Rust
  • Infrastructure: AWS, Terraform
  • Communication/Data: GraphQL/AppSync, MQTT
  • Observability: Grafana
  • Workflow: We work in a monorepo designed for agent-assisted engineering workflows and are investing heavily in making engineers dramatically more effective with coding agents.
