[Hiring] Editor for a ~15 min storytime video — $450 flat + paid test edit
Source: reddit-r-forhire
About the Project
I run a comedy skit channel on YouTube called justWoodi. I am looking for an editor to help with a personal storytime video explaining my recent two-month absence.
The video covers heavy material—including health struggles and ER visits—but maintains my usual comedic tone. It is essential that the editor understands when to use pacing and humor, and when to let the footage breathe (i.e., when the correct edit is "nothing at all").
What I Need
- Raw Footage: 90–120 minutes of talking head, recorded across 10 sections.
- Target Final: ~15 minutes, punchy.
- Content Requirements:
- Cut in 4 short scripted comedy bits (filmed separately).
- Integrate memes, SFX, and b-roll across drier stretches.
- Create one motion-graphics data timeline.
- Execute one small VFX shot (making my eye look worse than it already does).
- Add subtitles.
I will provide a full beat-by-beat brief, including asset calls, SFX cues, and marked sections that should remain quiet. However, I encourage creative input if you find a better way to execute the edit.
Rate and Terms
- Project Fee: $450 flat (50% upfront, 50% on delivery).
- Revisions: Two rounds included; additional revisions will be billed hourly.
- Turnaround: To be negotiated and locked in before starting.
Test Edit
Before hiring, I am paying $50 for a 3-minute test edit (the same section for all applicants). This is paid regardless of whether you are hired for the full project. If we move forward, this $50 will be applied toward the $450 total.
How to Apply
Please include the following in your reply:
- Portfolio: Ideally something dialogue-driven (storytime, vlog, or video essay).
- Rate: If $450 does not work for you, please state your required rate.
- Turnaround: Your usual turnaround time.
- Experience: Any comedy or skit editing experience.
Note: This could turn into ongoing work, as I have a full backlog of skits.
