Web Developer for 3D / 2D Minecraft Data Visualization Viewer (WebGL)
Source: reddit-r-forhire
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced web developer to build a custom, web-based 2D + 3D viewer for structured spatial data. The data will be Minecraft files such as .litematica or .schematic, which are NBT-based file formats.
We need a standalone, embeddable web tool that allows users to visualize structured data directly in the browser.
Requirements
The viewer should:
- Load structured data files representing a 3D grid / block-based structure
- Render the structure in 3D using WebGL (Three.js or similar)
- Allow layer-by-layer navigation (vertical slicing)
- Provide a 2D layer view (orthographic or top-down)
- Generate a data summary list derived from the structure
- Handle both small and large datasets efficiently
The tool should dynamically generate the visualization on demand when a user accesses it. This is not a user file upload tool; data files are stored and associated with specific products in the backend, and the viewer dynamically renders the correct visualization when a user selects an item.
You should be comfortable with:
- JavaScript / TypeScript
- Three.js or another WebGL framework
- Parsing and transforming structured data files
- Performance optimization for large grid / voxel-style scenes
- Writing modular, maintainable code that can be integrated into a larger system later
This should be built as a self-contained viewer that another developer can integrate later.
Compensation
- Budget: $1,000 – $2,000+ USD, depending on scope and experience.
- Milestone-based payment only.
To Apply
I will provide you with more information, alongside similar tools out there to clarify the concept further.
I prefer a small paid proof of concept first, and clear milestones for the rest of the payments.
Please only contact me with previous projects you've worked on, specifically with 3D visualization. Thank you.
