Job Title: DevOps / Platform Engineer (Managed Hosting Layer)

Source: reddit-r-forhire

About the Role

We are a team building an open-source AI tool. Currently, our deployments are fully self-hosted; while this works for power users, it creates significant friction for broader adoption.

We are looking for an expert to architect and build a managed hosting layer from the ground up. This will allow users to log in, select a hardware tier, and instantly receive an isolated, authenticated environment running our application.

Key Challenges

  • Programmatic provisioning: Automating the deployment of isolated environments.
  • User lifecycle management: Handling user accounts and environment states.
  • Data persistence: Ensuring rock-solid reliability so users never lose their state during server downtime.

Technical Approach

We are not dictating the stack. We are looking for a pragmatic builder who can design a cost-effective, scalable, and future-proof solution while avoiding unnecessary cloud lock-in.

Compensation

  • Budget: $10,000 – $20,000 (fixed fee for the initial build).
  • Structure: The budget will be broken down into clear, actionable milestones.
  • Future Potential: We are looking for a long-term partner. Post-MVP, we intend to transition to a monthly retainer or revenue-share model for ongoing maintenance, scaling, and alerts.
