About the Role

EmpowerDB is a web-based database used by domestic violence and sexual assault service providers to manage and analyze information. Each organization has a customized system. EmpowerDB is known for its user-friendliness, security, versatility, and comprehensive customer support.

EmpowerDB is hiring two web developers: one mid-level and one entry-level (or apprentice). The system uses PHP (no framework), MySQL, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/jQuery.

Mid-Level Developer – Responsibilities

  • Add custom functionality to meet unique customer requests.
  • Migrate data between sources using SQL queries or PHP scripts.
  • Debug and resolve system errors.
  • Build reporting pages in PHP or with our proprietary reporting platform.
  • Be kind to the entry-level developer.

Entry-Level / Apprentice Developer – Responsibilities

  • Provide support to ongoing customers.
  • Gain exposure to the system’s codebase through daily customer support interactions.
  • Gradually grow into writing code for the platform.

Requirements

  • Mid-level: Prior web development experience with PHP/MySQL/HTML/CSS/JavaScript/jQuery. This role requires working within an established system and codebase.
  • Entry-level/Apprentice: No past web development experience required, but must demonstrate strong comfort with technology, a proven ability to excel in a complementary skill area, and excellent communication skills.

Compensation

  • Mid-Level Developer: $100,000 USD per year
  • Entry-Level / Apprentice Developer: $50,000 USD per year
  • Final salary offer may be lower depending on your location, experience, and market conditions.
  • Compensation is offered as full-time independent contracting (no benefits).

Role Details

  • Fully remote
  • Can live anywhere in the world, but must work 9am - 5pm in any U.S. time zone (Eastern, Central, Mountain, or Pacific)
  • Full-time, independent contractor arrangement
