About the Position

Cologix is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong thought leadership and interpersonal skills to assist in selecting and deploying new technologies to support Basis of Design requirements used in constructing new facilities, as well as retrofitting and upgrading existing facilities. The Vice President of Technology Engineering will serve as a technical resource for the President of the company and support peer organizations such as Construction & Operations. The ideal candidate will understand both Data Center Infrastructure and end-customer technology paths, which impact site design and engineering. This person will assist in technical and financial evaluations, including TCO analysis, EOL timelines, validating MTBF rates across various technologies, assessing impact on customer reliability, and driving industry-leading SLAs into purchase agreements to ensure positive outcomes related to service and support of selected equipment throughout its deployment lifecycle. This position requires a deep understanding of engineering principles and practical knowledge of equipment operation over its intended life cycle. The preferred candidate will have experience and knowledge of all key aspects of Data Center site design & engineering, including Electrical, Mechanical, Security (Physical & Network), Fire, and Structural elements of the solution to be deployed.

What You'll Do Daily

  • Designing short-term and long-term solutions for Cologix offerings to customers, aligned with advancements in MEP technology.
  • Demonstrate Cologix values and cultural statements to drive excellence, productivity, and customer service in all aspects of employment, and instill these values in all direct reports.
  • Maintain a positive and open demeanor, encouraging open discourse among peers while driving the team forward through change and fostering teamwork and collaboration.
  • Communicate technology-related business decisions, including context and reasoning, to Executive Leadership.
  • Interact externally with OEMs, vendors, and peers, requiring influence, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Assist with capacity planning, continuous improvement metrics and management, and interact with advanced operations and technical equipment support engineers.
  • Collaborate with our Energy Solutions team on new power delivery options, including Fuel Cell, NG Generation, Turbines, and Recip engines.
  • Manage to Cologix performance metrics and participate in Operational Reviews to achieve industry-leading SLAs.
  • Interact with various organizations, customers, vendors, contractors, and building management to provide a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in facilities post-incident reviews as required.
  • In conjunction with Construction and Operations, identify long-term solutions to meet evolving technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Liquid Cooling, High-Density Cooling Solutions, and Power design to address continued power densification on a cabinet and site basis.
  • While designing and engineering new solutions to address power and cooling demands, maintain cost-to-build parameters.
  • Evaluate opportunities to enhance site capacity and efficiency through equipment and design evaluation, meeting an ROI target set in advance.
  • Demonstrate a passion for continuous improvement, utilizing LEAN/Six Sigma methodologies to improve customer experience, SLAs, colocation facility uptime, and network availability.
  • Possess project management skills related to deploying new technologies within the Cologix environment.
  • Focus on power cost reduction opportunities, including commercial solutions and power utilization reduction management techniques, particularly cooling efficiency improvements throughout Cologix facilities.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Construction and Operations teams and the customer-facing teams on long-term technology solutions available for sale.
  • Ensure that all customer support and other Operations services meet or exceed established standards for quality and time.

What Makes You a Good Fit (Qualifications)

  • 7 to 10+ years of progressively expanding responsibilities and experience in colocation data center engineering, which may include equipment design and engineering, support engineering for OEM products, or construction engineering duties.
  • Ability to self-manage duties, reporting progress on key initiatives to senior management, whether directed by the VP of Construction, SVP of Operations, or Company President.
  • Must be flexible and a team player, supporting multiple organizations simultaneously and taking direction on priorities, translating them into key business drivers that the broader team can support commercially.
  • An ideal candidate can transition from highly technical conversations at an engineering level to briefing key executives in a manner that facilitates key business decisions.
  • Must possess a degree in Electro-Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Can deliver and translate cut sheets, shop drawings, and ROMs from requirements.
  • Combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Expert understanding of all One Line or Single Line Diagrams.
  • Experience with a broad array of MEP and building design software.

Compensation

$200,000 - $250,000 a year

Individual compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience. This position will also be eligible for an annual bonus.
