NeuralFrame | Senior Backend Engineer, Medical Data Pipeline (Python + Rust)

Location: REMOTE (US only, US time zones; no visa sponsorship) Type: Full-time Compensation: $170k–$210k + 0.1%–0.25% equity

About the Role

We build software that hospitals, cancer registries, and researchers use. You would own the pipeline that pulls data from hospital systems and transforms it for analytics and research.

Where Rust fits: Part of our hospital data acquisition layer—the code that talks to hospital systems—is written in Rust. You would work on both sides: Rust where performance and correctness matter most, and async Python for the rest of the pipeline. Rust experience is a strong plus. Whether you learned it at work or on your own, we want to hear what you built with it.

Tech Stack

  • Languages: Rust, async Python (mypy, pytest, ruff, uv)
  • Databases: PostgreSQL, MongoDB
  • Orchestration: Dagster
  • Infrastructure: Terraform/OpenTofu, AWS (ECS/Fargate, RDS, Lambda, S3)
  • CI/CD: GitHub Actions

Requirements

  • 5+ years building backend services or data pipelines in production (retries, idempotency, schema design and migrations, well-tested and typed code).
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • No healthcare background is required.

How to Apply

Apply via Wellfound.

In your application note, please include:

  • A few sentences about one pipeline failure you traced (what broke, how you found it, and what you changed).
  • If you have written Rust, a brief description of what you built with it.
