Workplace Policy

Farmers operates with a hybrid work environment. Employees living within 50 miles of a Farmers corporate office are expected to be in-office at least three (3) days per week, with up to two (2) days virtual. Applicants residing beyond 50 miles may still be considered.

Job Summary

The Data Science Manager utilizes in-depth knowledge and experience to apply advanced analytics and modeling to improve business results. You will leverage customer information and behavioral data to influence strategic business decisions using complex, innovative analytics, multi-variate models, machine learning, and data mining technologies.

  • Lead less complex projects operationalizing business decisions.
  • Work independently with minimal guidance from management.
  • Mentor, coach, and train less experienced team members.
  • Supervise direct reports who are individual contributors.

Essential Job Functions

  • Utilize broad knowledge of consumer analytics (retention models, agency economics, lead optimization) in daily work.
  • Demonstrate clean, reusable code and effective documentation.
  • Act as a primary contributor to multiple phases of a data science project (ideation, experiment design, EDA, feature engineering, model building, deployment, etc.).
  • Scope projects, define measures of success, and execute on broad projects independently with a sense of urgency.
  • Partner with IT, business, and data management/engineering teams to improve data infrastructure.
  • Present complex technical material to leadership in an understandable way.
  • Manage complex model deployments via MLOps techniques and steer MLOps environment improvements.
  • Supervise, guide, and manage the performance of direct reports, delivering regular feedback and supporting professional development.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Master’s degree preferred in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Business Analytics, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum five years of work experience in data analysis, statistical/mathematical modeling, or related fields. Insurance industry experience is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Python experience is required.
    • CLTV (Customer Lifetime Value) experience is required.
    • MLOps experience is preferred.
    • Lead routing experience is highly preferred.
    • Proficiency in SQL, SAS, R, and/or Snowflake.
    • Experience with cloud computing services (AWS).
    • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI).
  • Soft Skills: Strong verbal/written communication, storytelling, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Ability to influence stakeholders and handle shifting priorities.

  • The role is performed in-person at a Farmers office or virtually.

  • Occasionally moves, pushes, pulls, lifts, carries, or places objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequently performs fine motor tasks such as typing or writing.
