Mission and Objectives

Established in 1951, the IOM is part of the United Nations system. As the leading UN agency in the field of migration, it works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners to promote humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context

To strengthen decision-making, risk management, and strategic communication, the IOM requires constant monitoring of the country's information ecosystem. The support of Online Volunteers will help to:

  • Anticipate reputational risks.
  • Identify narratives that affect human mobility.
  • Analyze mentions and visibility of IOM actions.
  • Provide inputs for technical and management teams.
  • Strengthen communication response capacity in sensitive situations.

Task Description

Volunteers will support IOM Venezuela in the daily monitoring of national, regional, and international media, as well as social networks. The goal is to identify news, trends, and mentions relevant to migration, temporary housing, protection, governance, health, WASH, and IOM activities in Venezuela (including key states: Zulia, Bolívar, Táchira, Amazonas, Caracas, Apure, and Falcón).

Key Deliverables:

  • Daily Bulletin (Monday to Friday): Headlines, summaries, and links to news identified in national, regional, and international media.
  • Daily Social Media Monitoring: Focus on mentions of IOM, migration issues, protection, and associated trends.
  • Immediate Alerts: Notification of critical issues related to mobility, protection risks, or sensitive mentions of the IOM.

Requirements

  • Education/Experience: Background in communication, journalism, data analysis, social sciences, or related fields.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to identify relevant information and produce clear summaries.
    • Proficiency in digital monitoring tools, social media, and information verification.
    • Ability to work with keywords and thematic classification methodologies.
    • Discipline to meet deadlines and work in coordination with a remote team.
  • Languages: Spanish (Native/Advanced level required).
