About Govstream.ai

We’re a venture-backed Seattle startup on a mission to streamline permitting and development with AI. We are cutting delays, costs, wait states, and confusion so communities can build the housing they need. Our edge is an interpretable, deterministic model of a jurisdiction's process, with agents that operate within those constraints.

Our goal is to move the permit applicant from "Hello" to an approved permit transparently and responsively, in the shortest amount of time, and at the lowest possible cost to the city and the applicant. Led by a GovTech veteran team, we’re a tight, remote-first team that prizes transparency, execution, and customer success.

About the Role

As a Senior Engineer, you’ll architect, build, and scale everything from multi-step AI agents to low-latency APIs, spanning PermitGuide, Application Assistant, First Review, and the shared platform beneath them. Over time, we’ll expand our product footprint to match the full scope of the permitting process that we seek to streamline.

You will be working on Application Assistant, our end-to-end permitting product. It is a traditional software product—a deterministic rules engine and permit workflow tool—where we weave in modern AI and ML to help the applicant and permit office reach a resolution more quickly and easily. While we leverage AI, our product is not a pile of agents doing inscrutable things; a solid understanding of how to evaluate agentic systems and tweak them for improvement is important.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5+ years of full-stack experience.
  • Technical Fluency: Proficiency across the stack, specifically React/TypeScript on the front end and Elixir on the back end.
  • Product History: Hands-on success delivering AI-powered or data-driven products.
  • Architecture Instincts: Ability to simplify complexity and leave systems cleaner than you found them.
  • Startup DNA: Autonomy, bias for action, low ego, and comfort making decisions.
  • Product Mindset: You care as much about user outcomes and business value as you do about elegant code.
  • Language Interest: We model a customer's workflow in a DSL, and the agents all speak that; language nerds are encouraged to apply.
