Looking for Visual FoxPro Developer (Project + Ongoing Contract Potential)
We’re looking for an experienced Visual FoxPro (VFP) developer to help with an initial short-term engagement that has strong potential to transition into ongoing contract work for the right person.
This engagement can work in multiple ways, but our ideal outcome is finding someone who takes ownership of the initial project and then continues on as a long-term contributor.
Phase 1: Version Control Adoption Project
Budget: ~$3,000 (negotiable)
We need a VFP expert to work with a small team to migrate a single Visual FoxPro codebase into Git and help the team successfully adopt a modern Git workflow.
Key requirements:
- Deep familiarity with Visual FoxPro projects
- Practical experience with foxbin2prg (or equivalent binary ↔ text tooling)
- Ability to set up a repo that supports:
- Meaningful diffs
- Real pull requests
- No binaries committed to source control
This is not just initializing a Git repository and walking away. We need:
- Proper repo structure
- Conversion tooling/scripts (potentially including Git hooks)
- A workflow the team can realistically use day-to-day
Estimated effort:
- A few days upfront to configure the repository, tooling, and workflow
- Followed by a couple of hours per day for ~2 weeks to support the team as they adopt the process
Phase 2: Ongoing Visual FoxPro Development
Rate: ~$50/hr (negotiable)
After the initial project, we’re looking to continue working with the same developer to help maintain and extend a legacy VFP system while a separate team ports the application to C# / dotnet.
You would:
- Augment a small existing team
- Help keep the system stable, performant, and responsive to client needs
- Potentially provide architectural guidance based on deep VFP experience
For the right person, we’re flexible on rate and engagement structure.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong Visual FoxPro background
- Strong MS SQL Server experience
- Comfort working with legacy systems
- Experience with version control and modern development workflows
- Architectural thinking is a plus
- Pleasant, collaborative, and professional to work with
- Bonus if you have ERP experience
- Bonus if you also have experience with modern stacks (C#, dotnet, Azure, Github, CI/CD)
If this sounds like a good fit, please reach out with:
- Your VFP experience
- Relevant Git / foxbin2prg experience
- Availability
- Desired rate
We’re happy to answer questions and discuss details.
