About the Role

Julien, the Product Engineering lead at Oaktree, is building a flat, small team that operates like an engineering org, not a bank IT department. This role is for those with a tech background.

The team is building the next-generation platform for Oaktree's credit business, managing $220B+ in assets. This is a newly formed Product Engineering group, modernizing practices, architecture, tooling, and culture. They've recently implemented a new CI/CD system, evolved the architecture, and accelerated release cycles.

The work involves data-intensive applications across the full stack of a credit investment platform, including ingestion, transformation, analytics, and tools for investment professionals. You will work directly with business stakeholders, own priorities, and ship. This is a hands-on, code-every-day role.

Responsibilities

  • Building and owning data-intensive systems in production
  • Data modeling, pipeline architecture, and systems that process/transform/serve large volumes of data
  • Working directly with business stakeholders
  • Owning priorities and shipping

Requirements

  • 10+ years building and owning data-intensive systems in production
  • Strong CS fundamentals (data structures, distributed systems, concurrency, performance)
  • Deep expertise in data modeling, pipeline architecture, and systems that process/transform/serve large volumes of data
  • Python + at least one statically typed/compiled language (C#/.NET, C++, Java, Scala, Go)
  • Cloud-native experience (Azure preferred)
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, direct stakeholder engagement, and owning outcomes end-to-end
  • Genuine interest in applying generative AI practically across engineering and product workflows
  • BS in CS or related field required.

Title Note: The internal title is Vice President, which is standard in finance. This is a Senior/Staff Engineer IC role.

Locations:

  • 1 role in Los Angeles (hybrid Tue-Thu, DTLA office)
  • 2 roles in Hyderabad, India.

Interview Process

  1. Recruiter screen
  2. Behavioral + coding (30 min each, can be split or combined)
  3. Onsite: system design take-home + panel, stakeholder meeting, hiring manager
