Product Engineer | RealResponse

Type: Full-time

About the Role

We build software used across college athletics, professional sports, higher education, and other organizations, ranging from reporting and compliance to live event operations. We are a team of fewer than 15 people, profitable, and venture-capital-free. This allows us to make decisions for our customers and our team, rather than for investors. Rails is at the core of everything we build, and we maintain reasonable hours and a codebase we are proud of.

We are looking for a generalist who solves problems across the board: building and improving applications, shaping products, creating internal tools, developing fast prototypes, and maintaining systems that ensure high quality and security. You will own problems end-to-end, from understanding customer needs to shipping the fix.

AI Responsibilities

We are looking for someone who knows how to:

  • Evaluate new models as they ship and select the right one for the job (balancing speed/cost vs. capability).
  • Design agents and multi-agent workflows with tool use, while knowing when a simpler approach is better.
  • Build accurate retrieval systems (RAG, embeddings, search) that remain reliable as underlying content changes.
  • Measure quality with evals and observability to ensure changes are proven rather than guessed.
  • Maintain performance by keeping AI features fast, reliable, and cost-effective under real production load.
  • Handle AI security properly, including prompt injection, data isolation between customers, and protection of sensitive data.

Technical Stack

  • Core: Rails 8, Hotwire, Hotwire Native, Postgres, AWS.
  • Note: Rails experience is helpful but not required. We prioritize a strong grasp of solid engineering practices and principles, and the judgment to use the right tools for the job.

How to Apply

To apply, please email jobs@realresponse.com with the subject line: "Product Engineer: [your name]".

Please include the following in your email:

  • A link to something you have built.
  • A few sentences describing a problem you solved end-to-end.
  • Your salary expectations.
  • Your CV.
