[Hiring] Seeking a Documentary-Style YouTube Editor & Creative Collaborator
About the Role
I'm looking for a documentary/explainer-style YouTube editor to help grow my educational channel.
The videos cover branding, business, and cultural analysis - along the lines of channels like Vox, Maxinomics and Howtown.
This is not TikTok content.
It’s clean, narrative-driven, editorial storytelling.
Compensation & Growth
- Starting Rate: $150 per 10-15 minute video (for this video and the next one).
- As the channel grows and begins receiving sponsorships, your rate will increase accordingly, with the goal of moving you into a full-time salaried role as soon as revenue allows.
- We’re aiming for 2 videos per month, with consistent long-term collaboration in mind.
- If you want a stable, long-term creative home rather than random freelance gigs, this is for you.
Editing Expectations
- Documentary/explainer pacing
- Clean art direction (typography, layout, restrained motion)
- Thoughtful use of B-roll and archival footage
- Visual clarity and intentionality
- A sense of rhythm and breathing room
- Subtle, emotional, & tactile sound design
Creative Collaboration
- I’m looking for someone who thinks as a creative collaborator, not simply someone who just follows checklists.
- Your input is welcome on pacing, story structure, visual approach, and how each topic’s unique tone should influence the treatment. I think that communication and collaboration can only make for a better end product.
- The channel has a consistent brand palette, but each story deserves its own creative approach, and I value editors who bring ideas to the table.
You’ll Receive
- Final script, VO, Interview clips, Brand kit, reference videos, clear direction + collaborative notes.
Ideal Fit
- You’ve edited educational, documentary, or explainer-style content
- You care about pacing, clarity, subtlety, and sound design
- You want to grow with a channel and eventually take on a full-time role
- You communicate reliably and meet deadlines
- You want your creative voice to matter
- An understanding of advertising, branding, or marketing is a plus.
- Priority given to editors in SEA for easier collaboration
Project Structure
Every project follows a consistent three-round structure:
- Rough Cut - due within 7 days from briefing consisting of full assembly so we can assess pacing, structure, and story.
- Full Edit - due 4-5 days after feedback consisting of final graphics, typography, archival/B-roll integrated, and sound design
- Polish Cut - due within 2-3 days from feedback consisting of final refinements to get that extra level of shine.
To Apply, Please Send:
- 1-2 relevant samples (documentary/explainer preferred)
- Why you think you're a fit for this role
- Creative references you think are a good fit
- Your location
- Your Discord
Looking for someone who wants to help build thoughtful, well-produced educational videos - and grow into a central creative partner on the channel.
