REMOTE/The Netherlands (or hybrid) | Full-time | Seed-stage + equity

About the Role:

Root Sustainability helps retail brands transform scattered operational data into auditable, high-granularity sustainability insights. They tackle complex data, messy ERP exports, and intricate supply chains to make sustainability data simple, clear, and usable.

Responsibilities:

  • Own UX/UI end-to-end: research, flows, wireframes, prototypes, and polished interfaces.
  • Focus on usability, accessibility, and simplicity.
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering.
  • Lead design for key features: mapping, dashboards, workflows.
  • Translate complex sustainability problems into user-centered interfaces.
  • Build prototypes and conduct user testing.
  • Maintain and evolve a design system (Figma, etc.).
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, shipping frequently.

Requirements:

  • ~5+ years of experience in UX/UI with a strong portfolio.
  • Pragmatic approach: prioritize clarity over trends, iteration over perfection.
  • Ability to thrive in early-stage environments.
  • Knowledge of design systems, user research, and the ability to defend design decisions.

Bonus:

  • Data visualization experience.
  • Passion for sustainability.
  • Accessibility expertise.

Perks:

  • Salary: €60,000 – €70,000 gross per year with stock options.
  • Remote-friendly / hybrid with occasional meetups.
  • Direct impact on product direction.
  • Flat culture; work with a small, mission-driven team.
