About the Role

LIFEGUARD Technologies is seeking an ML Research Engineer to develop AI that predicts the survival of wounded soldiers before they reach a hospital. This role involves building a multimodal CNN-LSTM wound trajectory engine from scratch, utilizing unique real-world conflict wound data, including video and clinical time-series data. This is a government-funded program with a 28-month roadmap, aiming to take the system from proof-of-concept to a field-demonstrated prototype operating offline on hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical core end-to-end.
  • Design multimodal architectures.
  • Integrate XAI.
  • Manage edge deployment.
  • Implement federated learning across geographically separated data nodes.
  • Handle regulatory documentation to UK standards.

Requirements

  • Proven experience with CNN and LSTM / Transformer models on clinical or scientific time-series data.
  • Multimodal fusion experience (image + structured data) is a strong advantage.
  • Hands-on experience with PyTorch, ONNX Runtime, and XAI (SHAP/LIME/Captum).
  • Ability to work directly with clinicians.
  • PhD or MSc preferred.
  • UK SC clearance eligibility preferred but not a requirement.

Compensation

  • £70,000 – £85,000 base salary.
  • 0.5%–1.0% EMI equity.

Additional Information

This role offers a broader opportunity across a portfolio of health and med-tech ventures, building AI that saves lives across oncology, defense medicine, and emergency care.
