[Hiring] UI/UX Frontend Developer (Remote)

Rate: $40/hour
Location: Online/Remote
Source: reddit-r-forhire

About the Role

We are an early-stage startup looking for a developer/designer to help us create a polished, high-quality landing page prototype. We are seeking someone who combines strong UX/UI skills with solid frontend engineering and is comfortable implementing a small functional backend.

As an early-stage startup, we need someone who enjoys building from an initial idea, thinking independently, making product decisions, and turning a rough concept into something polished and usable.

Requirements

We want the project to demonstrate your skills across the following areas:

  • UX/UI design
  • Responsive frontend development
  • Animations and micro-interactions
  • Component architecture
  • Backend/API development
  • Forms and data handling
  • Clean code and project structure
  • Performance and accessibility
  • Product thinking

The Assignment

You will receive a concept/brief and need to turn it into a working prototype. The prototype should include:

  • A professionally designed landing page
  • Desktop + mobile responsive layouts
  • Strong typography, spacing, and visual hierarchy
  • Interactive UI elements
  • Smooth but subtle animations
  • At least one functional flow (e.g., signup/contact/waitlist form)
  • Backend/API for processing and storing submitted data
  • Proper loading, success, and error states
  • Clean, reusable components

Tech Stack: You are free to suggest the stack you think is best.

  • Frontend: React, Next.js, Vue, Svelte, HTML, CSS, Tailwind, etc.
  • Backend: Node.js, Next.js API, Supabase, PostgreSQL, or another suitable stack.

Selection Process

  1. Portfolio Review: Please do not build anything before we have reviewed your portfolio. We will select a small number of candidates based on their portfolio, previous work, and overall skill level.
  2. Paid Trial Assignment: Selected candidates may receive a short, random paid trial assignment (paid at the $40/hour rate) to evaluate your approach to a new problem, UX/UI decision-making, and code quality.
  3. Future Potential: Strong performance can lead to the full prototype project and potentially ongoing work with our startup.

How to Apply

Please DM the hiring manager with your portfolio and a short introduction. Ensure your application includes:

  1. Portfolio or previous projects
  2. GitHub profile (if available)
  3. Your strongest frontend project
  4. Your strongest backend/full-stack project
  5. Examples of UX/UI work
  6. Your preferred tech stack
  7. Your availability
  8. A short introduction about yourself

Bonus: Explain why you made certain UX, design, and technical decisions in previous projects rather than simply showing the final result.
