- Work Location: Remote (with occasional travel to conferences). MINT’s registered office is in Reston, Virginia, USA.
- Work Hours: Flexible schedule. This is designed as a full-time position, but part-time structures may be considered. Please specify your preference in your application.
- Salary Range:
- Full-Time: US$90,000–$110,000
- Part-Time: US$45,000–$55,000
Important Dates
- Interview Availability: Candidates must be available between 31 August and 11 September 2026.
- Conference Travel: It is strongly preferred that the selected candidate be available to travel to Lisbon, Portugal for the MINT Annual Conference from 17 to 23 October 2026.

Executive Summary
The Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) is an international 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting good practice in the use, research, and training of motivational interviewing. Founded in 1997, MINT represents trainers from forty countries and over thirty languages.
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the Chief Executive Officer, reporting to the Board Chair. The ED is responsible for translating strategic vision into effective organizational execution, ensuring operational excellence, member engagement, and alignment with MINT’s mission and values.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Strategy
- Provide oversight and management of all program, event, and business operations.
- Develop standard systems, policies, procedures, and technology to support operations.
- Prepare the organization's strategic and implementation plans in collaboration with the Board and staff.
- Maintain official records and ensure legal compliance.
- Develop performance milestones and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Member Engagement & Communications
- Promote MINT activities and ensure broad participation by members, chapters, and committees.
- Support committees to strengthen member engagement and retention.
- Execute communication strategies for the board and membership.
- Represent the organization to external agencies and the public.
- Ensure communications are accessible to non-native English speakers.
Staffing & Culture
- Supervise paid roles (Treasurer, Operations Manager, Events Coordinator, and TNT Coordinator).
- Oversee performance management for staff, contractors, and volunteers.
- Maintain job descriptions and ensure equitable HR policies.
- Foster a workplace culture that attracts and motivates a diverse, high-quality team.
Budget & Finance
- Manage finances within the Board-approved budget.
- Create the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Treasurer.
- Maintain and grow MINT’s reserves.
- Partner with the Finance and Audit committees to develop sound financial policies.
Board Relations
- Attend all Board meetings as a non-voting member.
- Work with the Board and Nominating Committee to recruit new members.
- Keep the Board fully informed on the condition of the organization through transparent communication.
Requirements
Essential Skills
- Proven senior-level leadership experience in non-profit organizations.
- Expertise in non-profit management, including accountability for budgets, staffing, and operations.
- Demonstrated expertise in corporate governance and board engagement.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Record of success in fundraising, grant writing, or scaling programs to drive revenue.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting.
- Fluency in English.
- Experience working with diverse, international populations across cultures and languages.
