About Smartsheet

For over 20 years, Smartsheet has empowered teams to manage work seamlessly and scale solutions smarter. Now, in our most ambitious chapter yet, we are uniting human teams with AI agents. By orchestrating the work agents do best, automating manual tasks and uncovering insights at scale, we create the space for people to focus on what truly matters: judgment, creativity, and big thinking. That is magic at work, and it’s what we show up for every day.

The Team

Corporate Systems Engineering builds and operates the software platforms, integrations, and automations that power Smartsheet’s core business functions across Finance, Sales/GTM, and People & Culture. Our team owns mission-critical systems and workflows that enable how the company hires, sells, bills, pays, reports, and scales. We operate at the intersection of software engineering, enterprise platforms, and business-critical data, treating internal systems with the same rigor, reliability, and product mindset as customer-facing software.

Financial Systems Engineering owns and evolves the technology ecosystem that powers Smartsheet’s financial operations and monetization capabilities. The team is responsible for platforms including NetSuite, Coupa, Planful, Stripe, ZoneBilling, Metronome, and supporting technologies such as Avalara, along with the integrations, data, automation, and engineering capabilities that connect these platforms across the enterprise.

The Role

As Director, Finance Systems & ERP, you will lead the engineering organization responsible for Smartsheet’s financial technology ecosystem and define the long-term technical strategy for how these platforms evolve. You will own the architecture, engineering maturity, technical health, and delivery of systems supporting core financial operations, procurement, planning, payments, billing, revenue processes, and emerging monetization models.

This is a strategic and highly visible technology leadership role. You will lead major transformation initiatives including ERP modernization, billing transformation, and the evolution toward usage-based and consumption-based monetization. You will report to the Senior Director of Corporate Systems and collaborate closely with Product and Engineering leaders across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Financial Systems Engineering organization.
  • Serve as the senior technology leader for NetSuite and ERP, ensuring the platform remains scalable, maintainable, secure, and auditable.
  • Provide technology leadership for major Finance transformation programs, including ERP reimplementation and modernization.
  • Partner with Product Managers to translate product strategy and business priorities into technical roadmaps and executable engineering plans.

  • Establish clear architectural boundaries and systems of record across CRM, product, billing, ERP, payments, tax, and planning.
  • Define the strategy for Finance systems data, ensuring data is timely, trustworthy, and usable for financial reporting and AI.
  • Drive stronger data quality and observability across Quote-to-Cash and Finance workflows.
  • Establish an AI strategy for Financial Systems Engineering to improve productivity, operations, and controls.
  • Develop a strategy for automated testing and quality engineering across the Finance technology stack.
  • Establish modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, source control, peer review, and observability.
  • Own the technical health and lifecycle of the Financial Systems portfolio, proactively addressing architectural debt.
  • Represent Financial Systems Engineering on executive steering committees and transformation governance forums.
  • Provide technical leadership across implementation partners and strategic vendors.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience across financial systems, enterprise application engineering, ERP, software engineering, or systems architecture.
  • 5+ years of experience leading technical teams, including managing managers, senior engineers, or architects.
  • Deep experience with NetSuite or comparable enterprise ERP platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a major ERP implementation, reimplementation, or transformation program.
  • Strong understanding of financial business processes (record-to-report, procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, billing, payments, etc.).
  • Experience with financial platforms such as Coupa, Planful, Stripe, ZoneBilling, Metronome, or Avalara.
  • Experience with SaaS billing and monetization architectures.
  • Strong systems thinking and ability to reason across complex, connected architectures.
  • Experience designing or evolving enterprise data architecture and integrating with platforms like Databricks or Snowflake.
  • Experience establishing modern engineering practices (automated testing, CI/CD, observability, etc.) within enterprise environments.
  • Understanding of modern AI capabilities and practical applications of LLMs/agents in a financial context.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, auditability, and security.
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills with executive presence.
