Job Title: Tech Pack + Pattern Work for a Men's Shirt

Location: Los Angeles (Remote considered for tech pack portion) Source: reddit-r-forhire

About the Project

I am reproducing a short-sleeve button-up shirt for a limited run and am looking for someone to help take it from an existing garment to a small made-to-measure (MTM) run. This can be one person for the whole project or just the first phase—please specify what you can handle.

Responsibilities

  • Tech Pack: Create a tech pack from the provided reference shirt, including flats, BOM, POM spec, and construction/stitch callouts.
  • Pattern Work: Clone the pattern from the intact garment or deconstruct it.
  • MTM Development: Create a base pattern graded to standard sizes or suitable for MTM.
  • Trim/Materials: Assist in specifying and sourcing trims to match the original (tape, buttons, facings, thread).
  • Production: Cut and sew 5–10 prototype shirts, or source a shop for hand-off.

Requirements

  • Background: Fashion/technical design or patternmaking experience. This could be a working freelancer, a sample room, or a strong student/recent grad.
  • Software Skills:
    • Illustrator for tech packs.
    • Gerber, Tukatech, Optitex, or CLO for pattern work.
  • Logistics: LA area is strongly preferred (I can ship or hand off the reference garment).

Compensation

  • Tech Pack Only: $400 flat rate.
  • Full Scope: Compensation depends on the final scope and your experience. Please provide your quote and a rough timeline (flat rate or hourly).
  • Note: I am serious about paying fairly for good work.

How to Apply

Please DM with:

  1. A brief sentence regarding your background.
  2. Samples of past tech-pack, flats, or pattern work.
  3. Your quote for the project.
