Senior Backend Engineer, Payments, Ledger & Provable Fairness

Company: Noricum
Location: REMOTE (2h overlap with US Pacific)
Type: Contract to permanent
Compensation: $120-160/hr
Start Date: By 14 Sep
Source: Hacker News

About the Role

Noricum is building the money infrastructure, ledger, engine, and payment rails behind a pre-launch wagering platform with a Steam skins economy. The front-end games, cashier, and bet ledger are already live, and the server contract specs (ledger schema, refusal table, round lifecycle, and game arithmetic) are written.

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to build the server from the ground up. You will own the core architecture and infrastructure of the platform.

Responsibilities

  • Build a server-authoritative game engine (seeds, nonces, outcome computation).
  • Implement a double-entry ledger where balances are derived and immutable to client-side writes.
  • Enforce all limits and refusals on the server side.
  • Develop payment rails that are idempotent under duplicated webhooks.
  • Manage seed custody and the provably-fair lifecycle.
  • Build an affiliate system with referral attribution and commission payouts.

Requirements

You must have experience shipping the following in a production environment:

  • A double-entry ledger or equivalent money system.
  • Payment integration including webhook idempotency.
  • Auth and sessions that you built and operated.
  • Infrastructure that you owned end-to-end.

Bonus points for experience with:

  • Provably-fair systems
  • Settlement-side gaming or trading infrastructure
  • Steam trade automation

How to Apply

Email michael@noricum.io with your available start date and a few lines describing the last money system you shipped—specifically what it guaranteed and how you verified its integrity.
